Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas appeals to his Christian beliefs in his latest political ad as he gets ready for what is expected to be
one of the toughest Senate races in 2014, against Republican Rep. Tom Cotton.
"I'm not ashamed to say that I believe in God, and I believe in His word," Pryor says in the ad. "The Bible teaches us no one has all the answers — only God does — and neither political party is always right."
"This is my compass," the Arkansas Democrat says, holding up a Bible. "My North Star. He gives me comfort and guidance to do what's best for Arkansas."
He ends by saying that he approves the ad "because this is who I am and what I believe."

According to The Washington Post, Pryor has the toughest odds against him of all Senate Democrats facing re-election in 2014. GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney won more than 60 percent of the vote in the Razorback State in 2012.
A
poll done by Cotton's campaign in October found that the 36-year-old congressman had a 4-point lead over Pryor, 45 percent to 41 percent.
A University of Arkansas
poll had the two candidates in a statistical dead heat in October, with the two-term Arkansas senator barely coming out on top, 37 percent to 36 percent. The same poll showed Pryor with a 34 percent approval rating.
The Republican establishment and the conservative wing of the GOP have thrown their support behind Cotton.
Pryor's ad may be a response to the ad Cotton released Nov. 26 featuring his mother, Avis Cotton, touting his military service as a Harvard Law School graduate who chose to join the infantry.

Pryor, however, has been trying to
distance himself from President Barack Obama and align himself with Republicans legislatively of late, by opposing a bipartisan bill that would have expanded background checks for those purchasing firearms and by supporting legislation by other Democrats asking for a delay in the Obamacare individual mandate.
