Support for the Republican proposal to replace Obamacare appears to be on the decline, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday.
The poll, conducted last Thursday through Sunday, noted the differences in voters' opinions from week to week.
The results:
- 41 percent approve of the bill, down from 46 percent the previous week.
- 38 percent disapprove, up from 35 percent previously.
- 22 percent are undecided, up from 19 percent previously.
Voters showed strong disapproval of the American Health Care Act bill —22 percent — than strongly approve of it, 17 percent.
Breaking down the results by party lines, 62 percent of Republicans approve the bill, while 18 percent disapprove.
Fifty-seven percent of Democrats disapprove of the bill. However, more Democrats feel strongly about their dislike for it than Republicans feel in their support.
- Democrats who strongly disapprove: 40 percent.
- Republicans who strongly approve: 28 percent.
Other results:
- 36 percent believe the bill would make healthcare worse, up from 33 percent last week.
- 30 percent believe it would help healthcare, down from 34 percent previously.
As for how quickly the bill is proceeding:
- 43 percent say Republicans "moving too fast."
- 18 percent say healthcare reform needs to happen "as soon as possible."
- 17 percent say Republicans "going about the right speed."
"Republicans in Congress are in a tough position right now, but our polling indicates that voters are willing to give them more time to get it right," said Kyle Dropp, Morning Consult co-founder.
The poll surveyed 1,927 registered voters with a plus or minus 2 percent margin of error.
