Most voters say President Donald Trump is intelligent, but far more say he is not level-headed or fit to serve, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.
When asked about Trump, most voters graded his first year in office an "F," and the most popular word to describe it was "disaster," followed by "chaotic." Most voters said that Trump is intelligent, though that number has fallen to its lowest point since his inauguration.
According to voters, Trump is:
- Intelligent: 53 percent agree, 44 percent disagree.
- Level-headed: 28 percent agree, 69 percent disagree.
- Fit to serve: 40 agree percent, 57 percent disagree.
- Honest: 34 percent agree, 63 percent disagree.
- Good leader: 39 percent agree, 59 percent disagree.
Although most voters agree that the economy is "excellent" or "good," most would credit former President Barack Obama for its improvement over Trump.
- Voters who credit Obama for economy: 49 percent.
- Voters who credit Trump for economy: 40 percent.
"President Trump can hang his hat on the economy, but must share the hat rack with President Barack Obama, as two-thirds of the country see the economic picture as excellent or good," Tim Malloy, Quinnipiac University Poll assistant director, said in a statement with the poll’s release.
He added that "it's been a very tough freshman year for President Donald Trump, by any measure. Considered an intelligent person with a really bad report card, filled with far more 'F's' than 'A's' or 'B's', the president is a long way from the Dean's list in the eyes of voters."
