New York City voters are split as to whether their Mayor Bill de Blasio should challenge President-elect Donald Trump's policies or work with him, according to the results of a new poll.

The Quinnipiac University survey finds that 46 percent of NYC voters said de Blasio, a Democrat, should make an effort to get along with Trump, a Republican. Forty-five percent said de Blasio should be a national leader against Trump's policies and ideas.

Other key findings from the survey:

  • Sixty-seven percent of voters said New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo would do a better job than de Blasio at ensuring New York City's interests are best represented in Washington under Republicans' control of the executive and legislative branches. Twenty-one percent said de Blasio would be better.
  • Fifty-nine percent of New York City voters disapprove of de Blasio's job at handling poverty and homelessness.
  • Forty-seven percent gave de Blasio a thumbs-up for how he handles relations between blacks and whites in the city.
  • Forty-two percent approve of how he's handing relations between the police and the community, with 50 percent saying the opposite.

A separate Quinnipiac University poll found that Hillary Clinton would beat de Blasio in a hypothetical matchup for mayor of the Big Apple, 49 percent to 30 percent.
