A new poll reveals former Rep. Patrick Murphy would lead the state's Democratic primary for governor if he entered the race with a Republican running mate, Politico is reporting.
The survey was conducted by Keith Frederick, Murphy's former pollster. It was funded by an unnamed Murphy supporter, who is hoping to persuade the former lawmaker to enter the campaign, according to Politico, which detailed the poll results.
Here are the results of the poll if Murphy entered the race with former Republican Rep. David Jolly as his lieutenant governor running mate.
- 21 percent favor a Murphy-Jolly ticket.
- 17 percent back former Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine.
- 12 percent support former Rep. Gwen Graham.
- Two other candidates polled in the single-digits.
- 41 percent were undecided.
If Jolly was not on the ticket, 20 percent favored Levine. Murphy and Graham came in second with 14 percent each. Forty-four percent were undecided.
"What this poll shows is this idea — of a new approach to politics with a bipartisan team that works together to solve problems — has currency in the Democratic primary," Frederick said.
The poll, conducted April 23-28, surveyed 750 people. The margin of error is 3.6 percent.
