NBC/WSJ Poll: Split Along Party Lines On Trump Handling Of Coronavirus Outbreak

Voters are split on how President Donald Trump is handling the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, a new poll showed.

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey showed voters divided along party lines on the question.

Here’s the breakdown:

• 45% approve of the job Trump is doing in handling the outbreak, 51% disapprove — figures that nearly match Trump’s overall approval rating of 46%, which is statistically unchanged from a month ago, Politico reported.
•  81% of self-identified Republican voters approve of how the president is handling the situation, while 84% of Democrats disapprove. Among independent voters, 43% approve, and 52% disapprove.
• 15% of respondents say they expect the virus to change their lives “in a very major way,” and an additional 26% say they think it will change their lives “in a fairly major way;” 39% expect only “small” changes, while 17% say it won’t change their lives in any way.
• 60% said the worst is yet to come; 6% said the worst was already passed;  31% said they don’t expect coronavirus to be a major problem in the nation.
• 48% said they have a great deal or a fair amount of confidence in Trump, while 50% have no or “not very much” confidence in him. 
• 75% have a great deal or fair amount of confidence in their state government, 72% say that about their local government and 62% say that about the federal government as a whole.

The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points for all registered voters.
