More than a third of voters give President Donald Trump a failing grade on his first year report card, equaling the third of voters who give him an A or B, according to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll released Tuesday.

The results, according to Politico:

  • 35 percent of voters give Trump an F.
  • 35 percent of voters give Trump an A or B.
  • 14 percent of voters give Trump a C.
  • 11 percent of voters give Trump a D.

However, Republicans graded out Trump's first year positively; 43 percent give him an A, and 29 percent give him a B. Just 10 percent of Republicans gave the president a D or F in Year 1, according to Politico.

"Despite a tumultuous first year in office, our polling shows an uptick in Republican voters who think Trump is doing an excellent job as president," said Morning Consult co-founder and Chief Research Officer Kyle Dropp.

"In mid-April, 33 percent of Republicans said they would grade Trump’s presidency an 'A,' compared to 43 percent of Republicans who said they would give him the same grade today."

Trump, however, has some work to do with independent voters, 31 percent of whom give Trump an F. Just 28 percent of Independents give Trump an A or B.

Voters are split on whether they think Trump will get better or worse over the next three years as president:

  • 37 percent think Trump will get better.
  • 37 percent think Trump will get worse.
  • 19 percent think Trump will stay the same.

On the issues, Trump scored the best on the economy, garnering an A grade from 25 percent of the voters. That was offset by the 26 percent who gave Trump an F for the economy.

Trump also gets an A from 24 percent of the voters on jobs, but again offset by 24 percent who give him an F.

Republican voters give Trump his lowest grades on climate change and the national debt; 8 percent of Republicans surveyed gave him an F on both issues. Further, another 8 percent of Republicans also gave him a D on both issues, according to Politico.
