Fifteen states will house 70 percent of all Americans by 2040, political scientist Norman Ornstein claimed.
The American Enterprise Institute scholar responded to a related tweet with one of his own this week that revealed the statistic:
The Washington Post reported on Ornstein's remark and referenced a 2016 population study by the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service of the University of Virginia that claimed 49.5 percent of Americans will live in eight states: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
The Post concluded through the data that about 30 percent of the country's population will have 68 percent of the seats in the Senate. Put another way, 50 percent of the population will control 84 percent of the Senate.
The aforementioned study also noted the country's center of population will be in southern Missouri. That location has gradually moved west since 1790, when it was on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
