A Democratic member of Congress on Monday called on President Joe Biden to fire the entire Postal Board of Governors over what he called their "silence and complicity" in attempts by President Donald Trump to "subvert the election" and harm the Post Office in the process.

Rep. Bill Pascrell, N.J., tweeted:

"Today I am calling on President Biden to fire the entire Postal Board of Governors for their silence and complicity in trump [sic] and dejoy's [sic] attempts to subvert the election and destroy the Post Office."

He referenced Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in the tweet as well. DeJoy is a Trump appointee, of whom Pascrell has been a longtime critic.

The congressman wrote in a follow-up tweet:

"Trump confessed he was wrecking @USPS to rig the election. His toady Postmaster General dejoy carried out that arson. It’s time to clean house. Dejoy should be fired but also prosecuted. In August I called for dejoy to face criminal subversion charges."

The original tweet included a letter addressed to Biden laying out his case against the board, which he said "sat silent" as DeJoy implemented "efforts to dismantle mail sorting machines, cut overtime, restrict deliveries, and remove mailboxes" that slowed postal service during a time of record mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Democrats have argued their voters were more heavily affected since Republican voters shunned the practice much as they did mask-wearing.

"The board members' refusal to oppose the worst destruction ever inflicted on the Postal Service was a betrayal of their duties and unquestionably constitutes good cause for their removal," Pascrell said in the letter.

The Hill noted, Biden has the authority as president to fire the entire board and appoint his own replacements, and, with a Democrat Senate majority, is likely to get his appointments passed.
