Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said if a New York Times story about Jeff Sessions is accurate, he must be removed as attorney general.

The story in question said Sessions had pushed for negative press coverage of former FBI Director James Comey.

Bharara's comments came in a tweet on Thursday night.

The Times attributed its information to a source, but a spokesman for the Justice Department said: "This did not happen and would not happen."
