When reached for comment about the firing of former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, Trump attorney John Dowd on Saturday said he hoped it would inspire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to bring an end to the Russia probe, The Daily Beast reported.
"I pray that Acting Attorney General Rosenstein will follow the brilliant and courageous example of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility and Attorney General Jeff Sessions and bring an end to alleged Russia Collusion investigation manufactured by McCabe's boss James Comey based upon a fraudulent and corrupt Dossier," Dowd commented.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who fired McCabe Friday evening, recused himself from the Russia probe led by special counsel Robert Mueller. Rosenstein has been overseeing the investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign, which President Donald Trump has often labeled a "witch hunt."
Shortly after The Daily Beast published the article, MSNBC reported Saturday on Twitter that Dowd specified "he was speaking for himself when he called for an end to the Mueller probe" and not on behalf of the president.
