Trump: I'm 'Vindicated' on Russia Allegations

By    |   Saturday, 10 February 2018 02:44 PM EST

President Donald Trump claimed recent revelations about activities by the FBI, Justice Department and State Department "vindicated" him regarding charges his presidential campaign colluded with Russian officials. To support his contention, Trump tweeted a quote by Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, who appeared Saturday on Fox News.

"My view is that not only has Trump been vindicated in the last several weeks about the mishandling of the Dossier and the lies about the Clinton/DNC Dossier, it shows that he’s been victimized. He’s been victimized by the Obama Administration who were using all sorts of... agencies, not just the FBI & DOJ, now the State Department to dig up dirt on him in the days leading up to the Election. Comey had conversations with Donald Trump, which I don’t believe were accurate...he leaked information (corrupt).” Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch on @FoxNews" Trump tweeted Saturday.

The House Intelligence Committee released a GOP memo a week ago that outlined abuses by the FBI and Department of Justice to obtain FISA warrants to surveil Americans, including a member of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. The justification used to obtain the warrants was a dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele.

Investigations have revealed the Steele dossier was funded in part by the Democratic National Committee and the campaign of 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. An FBI assessment found the Steele dossier to only be "minimally corroborated," The Washington Post reported shortly after the GOP memo was released.

A "second dossier" also containing uncorroborated allegations about Trump has surfaced, this time penned by freelance journalist Cody Shearer, who was a longtime ally of Bill and Hillary Clinton, ABC News reported. That eight-page dossier alleges unverified and salacious activities Trump purportedly conducted in 2013 in Russia.

Shearer has said he shared the documents with longtime Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal, according to ABC News. Blumenthal then gave them to Jonathan Winer, an Obama State Department official, an unnamed source said.

Trump has repeatedly called the allegations he colluded with Russians as "fake news."
