President Donald Trump's Presidential Commission on Election Integrity is set to hold its first meeting Wednesday morning, the Washington Examiner reported Sunday.

Controversy has surrounded the commission Trump created in May over the panel's mission and a recent request by commission Vice Chairman Kris Kobach asking states to supply detailed voter information. Kobach is Kansas' secretary of state.

Twelve people have been named to the bipartisan commission so far. Members will be sworn in and remarks by Vice President Mike Pence, the panel's chairman, will follow.

Commission members will then have a one-hour discussion where they are expected to discuss their mission, bylaws, operating procedures, future meeting schedule and other topics they might address, the Examer reported.

Trump created the commission alleging millions of people, particularly illegal immigrants, voted in the 2016 presidential election. The commission will look into the charges of illegal voting and will also address voter suppression and irregularities.

Most states balked when Kobach requested voter information that included full names of registered voters, in addition to their address, date of birth, last four digits of their Social Security number, voting history and other personal information. Forty-four states refused all or parts of the request.

Last week the White House released 100 pages of comments the commission received from late June to early July. Many of the comments were negative, although some contained suggestions of where the panel might uncover voter fraud.
