Ari Fleischer, former press secretary to President George W. Bush, and Mike McCurry, who served in the same capacity under President Bill Clinton, urged the White House to end all live coverage of press briefings, The Hill reported.
The two men issued identical tweets on Wednesday, according to the website.
Here is what Fleisher posted on Twitter:
And this came from a Twitter account identified by at least two media reports as belonging to McCurry:
The two had co-authored an article for the Columbia Journalism Review in January and had argued against live coverage of the briefings.
"First, we recommend that President-elect Trump keep the press briefing, but no longer make it a live televised event," they said. "The briefing today has become an occasion for too much posturing on both sides of the camera."
But the White House Correspondents' Association has come out against changes for the briefings, CBS News reported.
"We believe strongly that Americans should be able to watch and listen to senior government officials face questions from an independent news media, in keeping with the principles of the First Amendment and the need for transparency at the highest levels of government," WHCA President Jeff Mason said.
