Quinnipiac Poll: Clinton Favored Over de Blasio for NYC Mayor

Hillary Clinton, running as an independent, would beat incumbent New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio running as a Democrat 49-30 percent, a Quinnipiac University poll reveals.

Here are the poll highlights:

• De Blasio was favored by 28 percent of Republicans, 29 percent of Democrats and 31 percent of independents.
• Clinton was favored by 18 percent of Republicans, 61 percent of Democrats and 45 percent of independents.

Despite her loss in the presidential race to Donald Trump, Clinton was still viewed favorably by voters in New York City.

Here is how the poll breaks down:

• 64 percent of those surveyed had a favorable opinion of Clinton, compared to 31 percent who did not.
• 48 percent of those polled had a favorable opinion of de Blasio, compared to 44 percent who did not.
• 45 percent approve of the way de Blasio is handling the mayor’s jobs, while 46 percent disapprove.

The poll found the mayor does outperform other possible candidates when Clinton is not in the race.

"New Yorkers aren't in love with Mayor Bill de Blasio, but they seem to like him better than other possible choices - except Hillary Clinton, who probably is an impossible choice," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University poll.

From Jan. 11 – 17, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,138 New York City voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.
