Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has a seven-point lead over her Republican rival, Donald Trump, according to a Quinnipiac University poll

Among 1,007 likely voters:

  • Clinton is favored by 47 percent;
  • Trump: 40 percent;
  • Libertarian Gary Johnson: 7 percent;
  • Green Party candidate Jill Stein, 1 percent.

A majority of voters in the poll says that the media is biased against Trump.

  • Biased: 55 percent;
  • Not biased: 42 percent.

Breaking down those results by party affiliation, both Republicans and independent voters believe the media is biased:

Republicans:

  • Biased: 88 percent;
  • Not biased: 8 percent.

Independents:

  • Biased: 61 percent;
  • Not biased: 37 percent.

Democratic voters believe the media does not oppose the Republican candidate:

  • Biased: 20 percent.
  • Not biased: 77 percent

"Donald Trump made the charge, and American likely voters agree: There IS a media bias against the GOP contender," said Tim Malloy, Quinnipiac poll assistant director.

Another poll question asked whether each candidate has a "sense of decency." A higher percentage believes that Trump does not have one.

Trump:

  • No sense of decency: 59 percent;
  • Sense of decency: 36 percent.

Clinton:

  • Sense of decency: 55 percent;
  • No sense of decency: 42 percent.

Whether the two candidates were fit to be the commander in chief was another poll question.

About Trump:

  • Fit: 58 percent;
  • Unfit: 38 percent.

Clinton:

  • Fit: 47 percent;
  • Unfit: 49 percent.

"Media bias or not, Trump’s character issues have ominous implications. The consensus opinion is that Trump groped women and is neither fit enough nor a decent enough person to be President," Malloy said.

Trump and his supporters have claimed that the media is biased against him; in one instance the candidate criticized "Saturday Night Live" for a parody of him.
