New York City voters oppose the nuclear deal with Iran, which shows that Sen. Chuck Schumer has support among his constituents for opposing the deal, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

Forty-three percent of NYC voters said that they oppose the Iranian nuclear deal, with only 36 percent saying they support it, in the poll taken of 1,108 New York City voters from July 30 to Aug. 4.

The New York Democrat, who is expected to become the minority leader in the Senate, came out in opposition to the deal last week, saying that he believes that Iran will not make any changes "under this agreement," but it will be able "to achieve its dual goals of eliminating sanctions while ultimately retaining its nuclear and non-nuclear power."

Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Maurice Carroll said that while "New York City voters agree with U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer in his opposition to the proposed Iran deal," he added that "the man who would be Senate Democratic leader should note that his fellow Democrats support the deal."

Forty-three percent of New York Democrats said they support the Iranian deal, while 33 percent said they oppose it. Among New York Republicans, 70 percent oppose the deal, with only 15 percent in support.

Jewish voters in New York oppose the deal, 53-33 percent.
