Republicans have come out in force against the Rev. Raphael Warnock over a past sermon in which he said, ''nobody can serve God and the military,'' Fox News reports.
In 2011, Warnock, who is now a Democratic candidate for Senate in Georgia, gave a sermon ''based on a biblical verse that reads, 'No man can serve two masters,''' according to a campaign spokesperson.
''America, nobody can serve God and the military,'' Warnock said in his sermon. ''You can't serve God and money. You cannot serve God and mammon at the same time. America, choose ye this day who you will serve. Choose ye this day.''
Republicans, including Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and Warnock's opponent, Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., have slammed Warnock's sermon as insulting to religious members of the military.
Cotton tweeted:
''This is an insult to everyone who served. Raphael Warnock should withdraw.''
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., added:
''Not shocked #Georgia Democrat Senate candidate Raphael Warnock said 'You cannot serve God and the military' at the same time. These & even crazier things is what the radicals who control the Democratic party's activist & small dollar donor base believe."
