Most Republicans believe Ohio Gov. John Kasich is the most qualified candidate to be president, with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas the runner-up, a new
Rasmussen Reports poll reveals.
But GOP voters are not so keen on whether the same is true of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump.
The poll of 1,000 likely U.S. voters said the most qualified Republican to be commander-in-chief is:
- Kasich: 54 percent
- Cruz: 40 percent
- Trump: 27 percent
By comparison, 50 percent believe Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton is qualified to be president. Another 48 percent say her rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is, too.
Sixty-six percent say Trump is not qualified to lead the country, while 43 percent say the same of Cruz. Thirty percent say Kasich is not qualified enough.
The poll was conducted on April 7 and 10, and has a margin of sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
