Tennessee Rep. Diane Black on Friday touted the benefits of the $1.5 trillion Republican tax-cut plan passed in December, saying that "everybody benefits from this reform."
"This is what tax reform is all about: helping taxpayers, especially middle-income families and small businesses, put more money in their pocket so they can choose what to do with it," Black said in an opinion piece for Fox News.
"At the end of the day, everybody benefits from this reform," she wrote.
President Donald Trump signed the tax-cut legislation after Congress passed it in December — and employers immediately announced worker pay raises and bonuses, more hirings, expansions and new research efforts.
"We wanted to rebuild confidence in our private sector," Black said. "We wanted to bring back America's competitive edge by giving job creators freedom from punishing high taxes — and we did just that.
"This is the most optimistic the business community has been since the financial crisis."
Black, a member of the House Budget Committee, slammed Democratic attacks on the plan as a "giveaway to the wealthy" — and ripped House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's remark in January that the pay bonuses amounted to "crumbs."
"Those are some nice 'crumbs,'" Black said after detailing how such employers as Walmart Inc. and FedEx Corp. were either raising employee wages or expanding operations.
"For workers, this means bonuses and wage increases because of the lowered tax rates," Black said. "Business owners are seeing dramatically less of their profits siphoned off by the government, giving them freedom to invest in those who are the backbone of their company."
She also touted how the tax cuts benefitted local businesses, farmers and small-shop operators.
"Many farmers are looking for a second job or are having to sell the land that has been in their family for generations," Black said.
"But with our tax cuts, there is a renewed sense of hope," she added. "Farmers will have more cash on hand to put toward paying off their debt and investing in their families.
"I'm proud of our accomplishment because it means people can breathe easier — and with confidence," Black concluded. "You know how to spend your money better than the government.
"It’s as simple as that," she concluded.
