Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., praised Donald Trump and said the former president deserves a place in the Republican Party in years to come.
His comments came in an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette posted Thursday.
''I think that history will regard his legacy in a very favorable light, and I think his impact is here to stay,'' Reschenthaler said. ''He would be given at least one Nobel Peace Prize had he not been a Republican — I truly believe that.''
Trump had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020 for his Middle East and Balkans peace agreements.
Meanwhile, Reschenthaler, in his interview, dismissed talk of conflicts within the GOP.
''We as Republicans have always had some form of internal debate and discussion,'' he said. ''That’s nothing new, and that’s frankly to be expected when you have such a diverse group of individuals under your tent and all the ideologies coming together.''
