Enthusiasm is higher for President Donald Trump this election cycle than it was in the 2016 presidential election, despite polling data that favors presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden in several national polls, Republican National Committee Chairperson Ronna McDaniel claimed Monday.
Biden, however, has an "enthusiasm" issue, McDaniel told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." “I’m traveling the country, I’ve seen it through our volunteers. I’ve seen it through our donations,” McDaniel said.
According to Fox News polls, Biden is ahead of Trump in battleground states Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.
Biden is ahead among women, non-white voters, and suburban voters, while Trump's lead among male and white voters is lagging.
According to the Real Clear Politics overall national polling average, Biden is leading Trump by 9.1 percentage points.
However, McDaniel said Trump is polling behind Biden because “Republicans are not responding to the polls.”
“There was a Cato Institute survey that showed that 62 percent of Americans are not going to share their political beliefs anymore because of the situation we have in this country,” McDaniel commented.
In addition, Republicans are "under polled" but they still remain "highly enthusiastic for this president. I am seeing it every day as I travel this country and I think we’re going to see this on election day November 3.”
Republicans are still excited about nominating Trump in August, said McDaniel, with the nomination now occurring in Charlotte, North Carolina, after the main part of the convention, which had moved to Jacksonville, has been canceled.
"Let me say something about our convention," she said.
"As the president speaks to the nation we will be highlighting our candidate and talking about President Trump and how excited we are to renominate him to lead our country for 4 more years. I think the Democrats' convention should be called the 'Invisible Man' sequel because their convention is about how do we hide Joe Biden and create this disappearing act for the candidate so voters don't get to see him."
