Voters' disapproval of the influence that foreign donors to the Clinton Foundation might wield over Hillary Clinton is fueled by "right-wing attacks," her campaign manager charged Sunday.
In an interview on CBS News' "Face The Nation," Robby Mook was asked to respond to a new CBS News poll showing that 51 percent of voters in Ohio think Clinton is swayed by big-money donors from outside the United States.
"I think there are right wing attacks out there against her based on the important work that the Clinton Foundation has done that are simply not true," he declared, adding: "I think it's important that voters step back and evaluate what influences there might be on candidates."
Mook praised the "incredible charitable work around the world" performed by the Clinton Foundation global charity — and challenged GOP nominee Donald Trump's financial connections, referring to a New York Times report that Trump's business owes millions to the Bank of China.
"That is enormous leverage should he decide to act on his promises, for example, to have a trade war with China," Mook said of Trump. "I think we need to evaluate both candidates here."
"What is important to know that secretary Clinton doesn't draw a salary from the foundation," he added. "Donald Trump's businesses which affect his bottom line and his net worth have real ties to countries like Russia and China."
