The Roy Moore campaign blasted The Washington Post in a statement sent to the paper Wednesday, calling it "a worthless piece of crap" in the wake of its stories that alleged Moore pursued teenage girls 40 years ago.
"The Washington Post is a worthless piece of crap that has gone out of its way to railroad Roy Moore," Moore campaign strategist Brett Doster wrote to the paper.
"There is no need for anyone at the Washington Post to ever reach out to the Roy Moore campaign again because we will not respond to anyone from the Post now or in the future. Happy Thanksgiving."
The Post said it had reached out to the campaign in an effort to clarify facts regarding one of the accusations against Moore, the Republican candidate in what's become a contentious Alabama Senate race.
Leigh Corfman claimed she was 14 when Moore, then 32, sexually assaulted her in 1979. Several women have come forward since, with stories about Moore trying to pick them up at an Alabama mall when he was in his early 30s.
Moore faces Democrat Doug Jones in a Dec. 12 special election.
