House Democrats might seek testimony of President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani in its impeachment inquiry, but that call is the president's to make through attorney-client privilege, Giuliani told CNN.

"Ultimately, if I were to say 'yes' and he were to say 'no,' I can't testify," Giuliani said.

The attorney, who himself has been involved in phone calls with Ukraine and a potential investigation into corruption of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, said he has not spoken with President Trump about testifying, nor has he heard from members of the House about a subpoena to do so.

"I consider them a joke, a sad joke," Giuliani said. "They have no legitimacy. I would think of challenging their subpoena on the grounds that they're not a legitimate committee."

Giuliani was involved with Attorney General William Barr in a potential U.S. investigation into the Biden's involvement with corruption in Ukraine, as President Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in the transcript of their July 25 call, which was released this week.

"Rudy may be the best source of information, because he doesn't know what he shouldn't say," Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., told CNN.
