House Speaker Paul Ryan and the Freedom Caucus have united over their shared goal in getting rid of Obamacare and pushing President Donald Trump's momentum forward.
Leaders on the Caucus side and Ryan believe that both sides have moved carefully toward working together on healthcare legislation, according to Politico.
"Politics makes for the strangest of bedfellows. Someone you may not have been working with on the last bill, you better stay friends with them, because you may need them on the next bill," said Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S. Carolina), a Freedom Caucus member, according to Politico.
The Caucus is working alongside Ryan to gather up votes to support the healthcare legislation.
Senior Republicans told Politico that Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) has gathered up votes of support from most of the Caucus' three dozen members to support the new legislation.
"I think Mark Meadows has done a hell of a job" in gaining support for the bill, Pete Sessions (R-Texas) told Politico. "He stayed after it rather than shying away," Rep. Pete Sessions, the House Rules chairman, added.
Caucus member Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) said that the Caucus wants to help keep up the president's momentum. "Even though no one is totally happy, it allows us to get moving toward tax reform, which is the most important thing we'll vote on this year."
The team-up may be only temporary because Caucus members are unlikely to favor the tentative government spending deal. "It's peace in the valley for five seconds," one caucus member told Politico.
