President Donald Trump Friday praised outgoing Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, calling her a "warrior" for his administration, but ruled out returning short-lived former Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci as her replacement.
"Sarah was fantastic and she is fantastic, and she's going to have a tremendous future," the president told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "She's been with me three-and-a-half years, close to four years, and she has been a warrior in a sense."
Trump said that he knows there are many people who would like to have Sanders' job, and that "sometimes you have so many that it makes it more difficult."
He called Stephanie Grisham, first lady Melania Trump's spokeswoman, who has been mentioned as a possible successor to Sanders, a "terrific" person, but when asked about Scaramucci who said earlier on the same show that he wouldn't turn down the job, Trump rejected the idea of returning him to the White House, where he'd worked just 11 days.
"I like Anthony," Trump said."I think he should stay where he is right now. Anthony is doing a good job and let's keep it that way for a little while, but Anthony really is a good guy."
After the Trump interview concluded, Scaramucci appeared on CNN's New Day, where he was told what the president had said. He replied that he really wouldn't have wanted to return to the White House.
"I said on one of the other networks I would like to stay married," said Scaramucci, referring to the Fox interview. "He's giving me good advice. " like keeping my hair. On the fourth day, I was at the shower at the White House watching the hair go down the drain. I would like to keep the wife, keep the hair."
