Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval on Saturday announced he is endorsing Ohio Gov. John Kasich for the Republican nomination for president.
Kasich's campaign announced Sandoval's support in a statement Saturday.
"Governor Kasich and I entered office at the same time with the same primary objective: to put people back to work," Sandoval said. "Under John Kasich's leadership, Ohio's economy has undergone an incredible transformation. Over 425,000 jobs have returned to the state and people have hope again. Now more than ever, America needs his leadership in the Oval Office."
Kasich is the only candidatewith a real plan to deliver results, and he is the only Republican who can defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton in the fall, Sandoval said.
Sandoval will also serve as a national co-chair of Kasich's campaign.
On the Kasich for America National Leadership Team, Governor Sandoval joins Idaho Governor C. L. "Butch" Otter, former New York Governor George Pataki former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge, former Majority Leader Trent Lott, Senator Rob Portman, Senator John E. Sununu, Larry Paul, Gay Gaines and Steve Poizner.
As recently as last month, Sandoval said he would support whoever became the GOP nominee.
He had caucused for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio before Rubio dropped out of the race.
Some Republicans have said they would support a third-party bid rather than back Donald Trump.
Kasich already has been mathematically eliminated from the chance of reaching the needed 1,237 delegates on the first vote and is hoping to gain delegates in a second round of voting, or later.
