President Donald Trump's speech garnered wide-ranging praise Sunday for a speech urging Islam to "drive out" terrorists – including comparisons to former President Ronald Reagan's iconic speech to "tear down that wall" in Berlin.
Elliot Abrams, who served in foreign policy positions for Reagan and President George W. Bush told CNN that Trump "comes out looking better, not only as presidential, but as reaching out to Muslim leaders from around the world."
"I think he has helped himself a lot in pushing back against the idea that the origin of his position is some kind of prejudice," he told CNN's "Reliable Sources."
Supporters hailed the tone and message on Twitter.
Entertainer Vinnie James said the speech —with its demand for Islam adherents to deal with terrorists and "drive them out" – was reminiscent of Reagan's memorable call to "Tear down this wall."
And GOP supporter and broadcaster Wayne Dupree hailed the speech as proof Trump "will turn out to become best" president "ever."
Fox News' Eric Bolling also lavishly praised Trump's remarks.
Political commentator Dave Rubin said no matter what your politics are, "this was a solid speech with some hard truths."
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., called the remarks "masterful."
