House Intelligence Committee head Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., suggested Sunday a refusal of the acting Director of National Intelligence to turn over a whistleblower's disclosure may be a move to protect President Donald Trump.
In an interview on CBS News' "Face The Nation," Schiff said acting DNI Joseph Maguire is so far "ignoring the subpoena," calling that "deeply troubling."
"Here, the significance is the inspector general found this complaint to be urgent, found it to be credible," he said, and that in turn "suggests corroboration."
By not turning it over to Congress suggests the decision "involved a higher authority, someone above the DNI, well there are only a few people above the DNI, so we are concerned this involves wrongdoing that is under investigation by our committee ..."
Though Schiff said he "can't go into the contents," the complain "involves an issue of privileged communications."
"That means it is a pretty narrow group of people that it could apply to," he said, adding: "So I think it is fair to assume this involves either the president or people around him or both."
