Scott Brown: 'I'm the Best Person' to Lead VA in Trump Administration

(The Washington Post)

Former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown left his meeting with President-elect Donald Trump on Monday feeling confident about his candidacy for head of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

"I'm not competing with anybody," Brown said, according to the Washington Examiner. "I think I'm the best person, but there are some tremendous people out there and I don't look at it as a competition. I was in the military since I was 19-years-old and served for 35 years. It's something I feel very passionate about."

Brown sees it as a challenge to turn around an agency marred by scandals, calling it the "toughest job in the Cabinet."

"There's still high suicide. There's still long lines. There's still a culture of putting the soldiers as a second-class person versus making it a top priority," Brown told reporters at Trump Tower.

"There have been some improvements but with all due respect, there needs to be a tremendous amount of work there."

Other candidates for the post include Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, The Washington Post reported.
