Duffy: Lessons Learned in Healthcare Push Useful for Tax Reform

(Fox News' "America's Newsroom"

Republicans are applying lessons learned in the tough fight over healthcare reform while making their push to reform the nation's tax code, Rep. Sean Duffy said Friday.

"In the healthcare reform, you saw outside groups that were conservative that didn't buy into the healthcare package that came out of the house, so if you want to get reform done, it is not just in the House and the Senate," the Wisconsin Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program.

The House was able to pass a healthcare bill, but not the Senate, so now, the tax-writing committees in the House and Senate in conjunction with the administration are pulling together an agreement on what tax reform should look like, said Duffy.

House members differ on what tax reform legislation will look like, Duffy admitted, but he thinks there will be both reform and tax cuts.

"Those two things can easily go together," he said. "We say that we want some spending cuts to go along with the tax reform, I would join that effort to get spending reform, but we can to let the perfect be the enemy of the good."
