Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis., said he can't defend President Donald Trump's reported comment about Haiti and African nations being "s***hole counties."

Duffy's remarks came during an interview on Fox News on Thursday night.

"I can't put myself in the president's head," he said. "It's an unfortunate comment. I can't defend it. I don't think anybody can. I don't know where he wanted to go with it.

"I don't have good insight. I don't like it."

Duffy called the reported remark "offensive."

The Washington Post had reported that Trump made his reference during a meeting with lawmakers, who brought up a discussion on protecting immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African counties. He also reportedly suggested bringing in more people from countries such as Norway, the newspaper said.

The meeting was held to discuss a possible bipartisan deal for saving those covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Meanwhile, Trump has strongly denied using the language attributed to him.
