Spicer on AHCA: 'Not Jamming This Down People's Throats'

White House press secretary Sean Spicer rebuffed GOP criticism of the Obamacare healthcare repeal plan Thursday, saying President Donald Trump is willing to listen to everybody's ideas – "we're not jamming this down people's throats."

Republican Sen. Tom Cotton earlier Thursday had tweeted Republicans should start over. Later in the day, Cotton reportedly told reporters the American Health Care Act might make things worse than Obamacare.

"Well, I respectfully disagree, and I hope we have an opportunity for the team to continue to not only talk to [Cotton] about what we're trying to do and how we're trying to do it, but we'd love to hear his ideas," Spicer said. "As I mentioned the last couple of days, we're not jamming this down people's throats."

Conservatives have been vocal in their pushback of the AHCA, calling it Obamacare Lite and complaining it is not a clean repeal and replace.

"We have to do this right, so we don't look back and regret the way it was done," Spicer said. "This bill will land on the president's desk; he will sign it. We will repeal Obamacare."
