Spicer: Omarosa Will 'Do Anything' for Herself, not National Security

By    |   Monday, 13 August 2018 01:59 PM EDT

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer lambasted former Trump aide Omarosa Manigault Newman as a person who will do "anything to further her own being," rather than worry about national security.

"The idea that she brought a personal recording device into the Situation Room says all you need to know about Omarosa," Spicer told Fox News' "America's Newsroom," while admitting he was not close with her "by any means."

Manigault Newman has recordings from the White House, with one of her and President Donald Trump discussing her firing and the other of her speaking with Chief of Staff John Kelly from the Situation Room, when he dismissed her.

"She walked out of the White House after she was fired and sang the president's praises on multiple occasions on video, and then within weeks is peddling a deal with publishers to make money on a book deal," said Spicer.

Spicer also denied Manigault Newman's claims that he took pay for joining pro-Trump PAC America First before finishing his own book about the White House.

"I left the White House on Sept. 1 of last year, and made an agreement to pen my book in December" said Spicer. "I turned in that work in May. I didn't join America First until June 15. She claims I was paid hush money. If so she should provide evidence. I would love to know where that money went."

Spicer also said he does not know if reports that people were afraid of Manigault Newman are true.

"There were always rumors she was recording people, then there was a question about the level of integrity and trustworthiness she had," he said.
