President Donald Trump's personal lawyer suggested Sunday there's another reason why the president's eldest son did nothing "nefarious" by meeting Russians promising dirt on Hillary Clinton: the Secret Service let them into Trump Tower.

In an interview on ABC's "This Week," Jay Sekulow stressed the June 2016 meeting was legal between Donald Trump Jr. and  Natalia Veselnitskaya and Russian-American lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin.

"I wonder why the Secret Service — if this was nefarious — why the Secret Service allowed these people in," Sekulow said. "The president had Secret Service protection at that point, and that raised a question with me."

His comment comes after Akhmetshin told Yahoo News on Friday "no one asked us for ID's" when he and Veselnitskaya walked into Trump Tower.

"We literally walked in” without any security check, he told the outlet.

New Yorker writer and CNN commentator Ryan Lizza mocked the excuse.
