Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has a dismal approval rating of 18 percent in Kentucky, according to a Public Policy Polling survey released Monday.

McConnell has drawn criticism for his handling of the GOP healthcare bill, which failed in the Senate last month after three GOP senators voted it down, and President Donald Trump has repeatedly dinged the lawmaker for his failure to push the GOP's major legislative items through.

According to The New York Times, the two men have not spoken to each other in weeks. Before that, many of their conversations were punctuated with angry words. At one point, they even got into a "profane shouting match" over the phone when the president called to berate McConnell over the failure of the Obamacare repeal effort.

The poll also showed just 37 percent of respondents stating they would vote for McConnell if he were up for reelection today, with 44 percent saying they would instead choose a Democratic opponent.

McConnell's seat will be on the ballot in 2020.
