Roy Moore: Legit Accusers Don't Seek Attention From the Media

Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore called the sexual misconduct allegations thrown at him "dirty politics" during a campaign event Monday, noting women who are truly victims do not seek the limelight.

"These allegations are completely false," Moore said to a small crowd at a community center in Henagar, Alabama. "They're malicious. Specifically, I do not know any of these women, nor have I ever engaged in sexual misconduct with any woman.

"As a former judge and prosecutor, I know the seriousness of charges like this. And they should be serious, if it happens. . . . I've represented many victims in cases such as this. I have not seen one who wanted her picture posted on national TV, especially in a political advertisement.

"The truth is, this is not really odd at all. This is simply dirty politics, and it's a sign of the immorality of our time."

The Washington Post has run multiple stories that alleged Moore acted inappropriately toward teenage girls when he was in his 30s about 40 years ago. The allegations have ranged from sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl to his pursuits of teenagers at a mall.

None of the allegations have been proven, and the Moore campaign has flatly denied anything illegal or wrong took place.

"This is just a sign of the times in which we live. Politicians will stop at nothing to win in an election," Moore said Monday.

Moore is running against Democrat Doug Jones in a Dec. 12 special election.
