Some media and political critics have been demanding to know when President Donald Trump first knew about his former national security adviser Michael Flynn's talks with Russian officials, but talk radio host Rush Limbaugh says that is not the question.
"The question is, what did Barack Obama know, and when did he know it, and what has he engineered here?" Limbaugh said on his program Tuesday.
Limbaugh noted Flynn's conversations, which took place in December, occurred while Obama was still president. Obama, he maintains, is still essentially running a "shadow government" from within government agencies with appointees and career bureaucrats who are using their positions to thwart Trump's efforts.
With Flynn's resignation Monday, the mainstream media and Democrats have their "scalp" and will just keep going after more, Limbaugh said.
"They think they have blood in the water," he said, "and they think they can get another, and then another, and then another, and then another until finally they get Trump."
Limbaugh admitted Flynn was right to resign if he did, indeed, mislead Vice President Mike Pence about the talks, but said the discussions themselves "really isn't a big deal."
The taking out of Flynn was a "political assassination," Limbaugh said, noting the retired general had previously worked for Obama, but was forced out over his support of taking on the Islamic State.
"Michael Flynn is a member of the Democrat Party," Limbaugh said. "Aside from all of this, he has a reputation as a great man. He's also a hawk. And that's something the left just can't abide. Hawks like Michael Flynn, they may as well be Dr. Strangelove."
