Amid the protracted stalemate on the government shutdown over President Donald Trump's $5 billion border wall funding, the president struck back at border wall critics and Democratic resistance, saying "we're going to win at everything we do" as he wished America a happy New Year.
"I'm fighting for you," Trump said in video taken outside the Oval Office and posted to Twitter on Monday night, which highlighted the two years of his administration's accomplishments and goals beyond. "We're going to win. We're going to win all the way. We're going to win at everything we do."
The video was retweeted after three tweets from the president contended: 1. Mexico will pay for the wall; 2. Democrats will give anything but wall funding. 3. walls – like the "old-fashioned" wheel – work.
"MEXICO IS PAYING FOR THE WALL through the many billions of dollars a year that the U.S.A. is saving through the new Trade Deal, the USMCA, that will replace the horrendous NAFTA Trade Deal, which has so badly hurt our Country. Mexico & Canada will also thrive – good for all!"
He followed that tweet, which answers the begged question about asking for money for a wall he had promised during the campaign "Mexico will pay for it," with two tweets preemptively rejecting any Democratic offer short of funding the border wall and criticism a wall is too antiquated to be an appropriate fix for border security.
"The Democrats will probably submit a Bill, being cute as always, which gives everything away but gives NOTHING to Border Security, namely the Wall," Trump tweeted. "You see, without the Wall there can be no Border Security - the Tech “stuff” is just, by comparison, meaningless bells & whistles...
"...Remember this. Throughout the ages some things NEVER get better and NEVER change. You have Walls and you have Wheels," Trump's tweets continued. "It was ALWAYS that way and it will ALWAYS be that way! Please explain to the Democrats that there can NEVER be a replacement for a good old fashioned WALL!"
