Support for special counsel Robert Mueller’s handling of the Russia investigation is shrinking, a new CNN poll reveals.

Forty-one percent of Americans now approve of the way he is running the probe, compared to 39 percent who disapprove. In March, 48 percent approved and 35 percent had disapproved.

Support for President Donald Trump’s handling of the probe also has decreased. The new poll shows 29 percent approve of the way he is handling the investigation into Russian interference in the election, compared to 55 percent who disapprove.

In March, 32 percent approved and 56 percent disapproved.

Here are highlights from the survey:

  • 55 percent believe that the Russian effort to influence the 2016 presidential election is a serious matter and should be investigated, compared to 35 percent who say it is mainly an effort to discredit Trump’s presidency
  • 32 percent have a favorable opinion of Mueller; 29 percent have an unfavorable opinion; 19 percent have never heard of him and 20 percent have no opinion
  • 28 percent have a favorable opinion of former FBI Director James Comey; 50 percent have an unfavorable opinion; 7 percent never heard of him and 14 percent have no opinion
  • 31 percent have a positive opinion of President Donald Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani; 45 percent have a negative opinion of him; 12 percent have never heard of him and 11 percent have no opinion

The poll, conducted June 14-17, surveyed 1,012 people. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
