Stephen Miller, a top aide to President Donald Trump, said that internal polling is showing the president doing better than he did in 2016 when he defeated Hillary Clinton, while a Zogby Analytics poll shows Trump gaining on Democrats, the Washington Examiner reported.
“Our poll numbers are better today than they were on Election Day… in today’s country with the nonstop negativity in the media and everything else, the political success that we’re having in what you’re seeing in the numbers, the generic ballot, and everything else, is all enormously positive,” said Miller, the Examiner reported.
The Zogby Analytics poll shows that the divide between top Democrats such as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, as well as former Vice President Joe Biden is tightening, although Trump is trailing all three.
However, the poll showed that Trump is polling ahead of Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and in a tie with Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.
“Overall, the data points to Trump making gains with his base and key groups such as NASCAR fans and Walmart shoppers. The president is also making small gains with key Democratic groups such as millennials, Generation Z, independents, and women, while his Democratic rivals are losing ground with those groups,” said the analysis of the poll.
“This is all simultaneously happening while Republicans are making gains against Democrats regarding the congressional midterms,” said the analysis.
The Zogby poll surveyed 881 likely voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
