After sparring with CNN's Jim Acosta during a press briefing Wednesday, the senior policy adviser to President Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, is reportedly under consideration to succeed Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director.

According to a Saturday Axios report, the Trump administration is still in the "name-gathering process," but Miller is a top contender and well-liked by both White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and the president himself.

According to The Hill, Trump applauded Miller's performance at the press briefing on Wednesday when he defended a White House-backed bill that would establish a merit-based immigration system.

Miller, a former staffer to then-Sen. Jeff Sssions, R-Ala., would be replacing Anthony Scaramucci, who was ousted from his role as White House communications director after just 11 days on the job.
