House Speaker Paul Ryan said he and Steve Bannon, a top adviser to President Donald Trump are "different kinds of conservatives," but both are focused on passing Trump's agenda.

In an interview aired Wednesday on PBS's "NewsHour," Ryan told anchor Judy Woodruff that Bannon is "not someone I have a history with, obviously."

Bannon, former CEO of Breitbart News, told his reporters to go after Ryan, calling him "the enemy" shortly after he was elected speaker in 2015, The Hill reported.

One of those reporters, Julia Hahn, is now working under Bannon as a special assistant to the president.

"I didn't know him when he was opposing me all those times," Ryan told PBS. "We're different kinds of conservatives. That's something I can safely say, I think."

But, he added, "we’re serving a purpose, which is to get this agenda passed. And on this agenda that we've rolled out, that we ran on, on that we agree."

Now, Ryan said, he sees Bannon, as "a person which I have a common cause and purpose with. We're different kinds of conservatives, we really don't know each other, but we're all trying to get this agenda enacted. And that's why I don’t see a problem here."
