Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump's chief White House strategist, made it clear in a new interview he does not mind having a rocky relationship with the media.

"The opposition party is completely focused on trying to destroy Trump and his administration," Bannon told CNN. "It's not going to happen."

He has taken to calling the media the "opposition party."

CNN's Dylan Byers then asked if Bannon was interested in rebuilding his relationship with the media.

"I could care less," he replied.

Bannon's comments appeared in a lengthy story about White House press secretary Sean Spicer, whose future in the Trump administration is unknown. Trump senior advisor Kellyanne Conway and others have defended Spicer. A CNN report last week claimed Trump is searching for a communications director so Spicer can focus on serving as press secretary instead of doing both jobs.

Bannon has been a favorite target of the media for months, but he rarely does interviews and prefers to keep his conversations behind closed doors.
