Incumbent GOP Rep. Steve Knight leads Democratic challenger Katie Hill by a slim 48 percent to 44 percent margin in California's 25th Congressional District, according to a Siena College/New York Times poll released Monday.
Eight percent were undecided.
The seat has been held by a Republican since 1993, but as one Democrat said, they can flip this election. The district, just north of Los Angeles, was won by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016. It is now about 40 percent Hispanic and registered Democrats outnumber Republicans.
Other results from the survey include:
- Knight has a 50 percent favorable rating, with 37 percent unfavorable, while Hill has a 44 percent favorable rating, with 38 percent unfavorable.
- Hill has raised far more money than Knight and is among the candidates former President Barack Obama has been supporting in his recent appearance in Orange County.
The poll was conducted from Oct. 25-28, surveying 504 potential voters. It has a margin of sampling error on the overall lead of nine points.
