Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., who was seriously wounded when a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers attending baseball practice in June, said he is devastated by the shootings in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
Scalise, the House majority whip, made his comments in a Twitter post on Sunday, shortly after the shootings.
Twenty-six people died when a gunman opened fire at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs on Sunday, USA Today reported. The gunman, who died after a short police chase, was identified as Devin Kelly, the newspaper said.
Scalise had been shot while practicing with GOP lawmakers for a charity baseball game. He has said that incident "fortified" his opinion against gun control, The Hill reported.
