Billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer lashed out at a now-deleted tweet by House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., saying the post was “an anti-Semitic move.”

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” the hedge fund manager who’s leading a campaign to impeach President Donald Trump, was questioned about the tweet, which suggested Steyer, George Soros and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg — all of whom are Jewish — are trying to buy the 2018 elections.

"I have no idea what ... was in his mind. The attempt to figure out what is in people's mind is a mistake,” he said. “All you can do is see what they say, in terms of interpreting what he said, that seems like an anti-semitic move.”

"I think that is a classic attempt to separate Americans,” he added. “I think that absolutely falls into the category of what I'm describing as political violence. And I believe that what we are looking for in America is something completely different from that...what we're seeing is terrible behavior --- consistent, systematic, political violence from Republicans..."

He also lashed out at Trump for helping to create the “atmosphere” that fueled the multiple mailings of package bombs to Democratic critics of the president — including Steyer.

"There's obviously no direct link” to Trump, he said. “But I am associating and blaming him for creating the atmosphere that exists."

Steyer also defended his own fiery rhetoric.

"When someone does something wrong, particularly the president of the United States, it is absolutely incumbent on people to openly oppose it and use constitutional means to do that,” …he said.

“If we are going to have a more positive 21st century, that we not only oppose what's wrong, but we stand up for what's right,” he said.
