The Afghanistan strategy laid out by President Donald Trump was "put together the right way," Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., tweeted Monday.
The president's plan calls for a modest troop increase, an approach opposite of the one he touted in campaign rhetoric because he had determined the approach to pull solders out could create a vacuum that terrorists could "instantly fill."
"I concluded that the security threats we face in Afghanistan and the broader region are immense," Trump said.
Rubio tweeted Trump made the decision "based on information now available to him in office and on advice of wide array of experts," in response to commentators "attacking him" for the change.
