Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s friend Mark Judge, who allegedly witnessed the sexual assault Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of committing, is willing to participate in a “confidential” investigation, but will not comment publicly.
Judge, in a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee leaders and in a statement from his lawyer, said that he “does not recall the events described by Dr. Ford,” and that he “does not want to comment about these events publicly,” but “he is willing to answer written questions” and “to participate in a confidential, fact-finding investigation.”
In his letter to Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., Judge explained that "As a recovering alcoholic and a cancer survivor, I have struggled with depression and anxiety. As a result, I avoid public speaking,” according to CBS News.
He added that although he and Kavanaugh were friends in high school, they haven’t “spoken directly in several years,” and that although he does "not recall the events described by Dr. Ford in her testimony before the US Senate Judiciary Committee,” he claims he “never saw Brett act in the manner Dr. Ford describes."
